Salomie Lawrence is a self-taught, award-winning artist who lives and works in Grenada, where she uses her work to ignite positive change on issues ranging from social injustice, generational trauma, and the environment.
Drawing inspiration from the ethereal concept of ancestry and the rich tapestry of cultural narratives that shape our collective human history Salomie Lawrence creates emotionally evocative compositions that transcend traditional boundaries to invite the viewer on a journey of exploration. Salomie is best known for her low relief mixed media paintings and mosaic work which often uses found objects and recycled tesserae. As an emerging artist she continues to push the boundaries of her practice exploring new ideas, techniques, and materials to further enrich her artistic language.
Salomie has exhibited internationally and most notably in the Grenada Pavilion at The World Expo-Dubai 2020 and at the 5th & 6th Grenada Contemporary-Arthouse473, Grenada (2019 & 2022) and more recently at Unleash Grenada, 2023 where her work was noted for its craftsmanship and evocative storytelling. Her ability to evoke emotion and engage viewers in a dialogue about identity and heritage has garnered a following.
She actively engages in community programs and workshops with aspiring artists and enthusiasts, and her desire to foster a deeper appreciation for the arts is reflected in her commitment to education and mentorship. Salome’s work and innovative approach has captured attention and earned her the Emerging Artist Award 2018- Grenada Arts Council and Artists Choice Award 2019- Grenada Arts Council.
